I agree that the graceful shape of the poppy seed head makes an ideal vase, and I have found that if you shellac it, it then takes on the appearance of polished lathe- turned wood.
You've made some wonderful suggestions what to do with this poppy capsule. But I must admit I'm seeing a funny creature in it, especially in the first photo the base part looks like feet and the bauble part above would make a nice gnome. ;O)
